You can turn it on or off, choose how aggressively it saves (Comfy, Moderate, or Aggressive), and set a minimum linked account balance to protect against overdrafts ($100 is the default and the minimum). You can disable smart savings by going to your Edit Savings menu.

Taxes. You'll get a 1099-INT annually for the interest you earned, available in the app once it's ready.
If your membership changes
Your savings account stays open if you change plans, but the account type and features change, and you stop earning interest.
Your membership plan | Your savings account type | Earns interest | What you can do |
Premium+ | High Yield Savings | 3.55% APY | All features available |
Premium | Basic Savings | n/a | Deposits and withdrawals both still work |
Free | Limited Basic Savings | n/a | Withdrawals only — no in-app deposits |
A few details:
If you switch from a Premium+ trial to Premium, your Premium+ trial benefits will end immediately. If your trial ends and your account moves to Free, you’ll keep access to your trial benefits until the trial period is over.
Smart Savings pauses automatically if you move to Free.
If you upgrade back to Premium+, your savings account returns to earning interest right away — not at your next billing date. Smart Savings won't resume on its own, so turn it back on from the "..." menu if you want it.
Your account and routing numbers stay available on every plan.
Closing your account
Open your High Yield Savings Account → "..." menu → Close Account, then follow the prompts.
If you have a balance, closing your account withdraws it to your linked bank account. This can take up to 5 business days.
If you have pending deposits, your account is marked for closure and waits for them to settle. Once they do, the final withdrawal happens automatically. New deposits are blocked in the meantime.
Closed accounts are read-only. Closed accounts (unless they are pending closure) should not be able to see High Yield Savings Account past statements. You will only be able to see transaction history from your source account’s side, and not High Yield Savings Accounts. You can't deposit, withdraw, or view your account numbers.
We don't reopen closed accounts. If you want a High Yield Savings Account again later, you'll apply for a new one.
Deleting your Rocket Money account? You'll need to let any transfers finish, and close your High Yield Savings Account.

Frequently asked questions
Is my money FDIC insured?
Yes. Your funds are held at a third-party FDIC-insured bank, insured up to $250,000.
How is High Yield Savings Account different from a Financial Goal?
Financial Goals help you save toward something specific — you set a target and a date, and Rocket Money helps you stay on track. Goals don't earn interest and are available with Premium.
A High Yield Savings Account is built to grow savings you already have, earns interest at the current APY, and is Premium+ only.
Right now you can have one or the other, not both.
Can I call the bank directly for customer support?
No, Rocket Money Support handles all customer support for your High Yield Savings Account. There's no separate bank support line.
Can I link more than one bank account?
Not right now. Each High Yield Savings Account connects to one external bank account for deposits and withdrawals. To move money from a different bank, use your High Yield Savings Account account and routing numbers to start the transfer from that bank instead.
Can I open more than one High Yield Savings Account?
No, one per Rocket Money account.
What's the difference between annual percentage yield ("APY") and interest rate?
The interest rate is what your balance earns. APY is a little higher because it accounts for compounding — it shows what you'd earn over a full year at that rate.
Why isn't my money available to withdraw yet?
Deposits take around 4 to 5 business days to fully settle. Until then they show as Pending and can't be withdrawn, even if the money has already left your other bank.
Can I use High Yield Savings Account on the web?
You can view your balance and activity on the web. Opening an account, deposits, withdrawals, and account settings are mobile-only.
What happens if I don't use my account?
If your account becomes inactive or abandoned, it may be closed.
Is there a minimum balance or a fee?
No minimum balance to open or to earn interest, and no monthly fee.
