Rocket Money makes it easy for you to set up rules to automatically sort and edit your transactions. You can create rules that apply when specific transaction amount or descriptions occur, the rules can then change the category, assign the charge to a bill, ignore it from your budget, and so on.

For example, you may make multiple peer-to-peer transactions via Venmo each month that you’d like automatically categorized and renamed, e.g. "Electric Bill", "Allowance", "Doggie Daycare".

Premium users can create custom transaction rules by following these steps 👇

In the mobile app:

  1. Head to the Settings ⚙️ option in the top left hand corner

  2. Select Categories & Rules

  3. Tap on the Rules tab

  4. From here, you can view and edit your existing rules or tap on New Rule to create a rule

  5. Tap on If the transaction…, input your matching criteria for the name and/or the amount, and then select the updates you'd like to apply.

On the website:

  1. Head to the Settings ⚙️ option in the top left hand corner

  2. Select Transaction Rules

  3. From here, you can view and edit your existing rules or tap on New Rule to create a rule

  4. Select options for Match on Name and Match on Amount, and then select the updates you’d like to apply.

Creating custom transaction rules can help you streamline your budgeting and keep your finances organized. To tailor your budget further, refer to the Rocket Money help article on creating custom categories.
